One of Huntsville's own has stepped into the shoes of a gladiator.
Erin Cummings, a graduate of Huntsville High School and the University of North Texas, is now one of the stars of the new premium cable series "Spartacus: Blood and Sand," which premiered on the Starz network Jan. 22.
After spending her childhood in various Huntsville drama productions, and her college years working with various acting troupes and community theaters in the Dallas area, Cummings set out for Hollywood nine years ago to pursue her acting dreams.
After nearly a decade of steady work as a television guest star and independent film actress, a chance to join the main cast of one of the most-hyped new shows of the year serves as a major breakthrough.
Cummings co-stars in the series, which re-tells the story of Spartacus and his slave rebellion against the Romans, as Sura, the wife of Spartacus (played by Andy Whitfield). She came to the role through a combination of industry connections and hard work.
