The County Coroner, Detroit 187 style
Check out actress Erin Cummings who plays Dr. Abbey Ward on Detroit 187. She's a new take on an age old profession.
To dig deep into her role, Erin paid a visit to the real Wayne County Coroner to witness autopsies up close, she was shocked to find it wasn't a drab and dreary place.
"This place is really beautiful sunlight, sunroofs, it's all white, there are posters on the wall of Ray Charles and 50 Cent and different sports figures," says Cummings.
Her character comes from money, so she wears modern glasses, expensive designer clothes and even purple nail polish. But this sexy red head isn't just making a colorful splash on the small screen; she's in the community throwing out the first pitch at Comerica Park, to taking part in a kidney foundation fundraiser to even signing autographs at the Dream Cruise.
"If I'm going to be here, for hopefully the next several years of my life, I want to be a part of the change," says Cummings.
Many fans know Erin from Spartacus: Blood and Sand, Mad Men and Dollhouse, and Erin admits she heard the Detroit naysayers.
"Everyone who was not from Detroit said very negative things and tried to instill a sense of fear, and I try not to live my life that way, everyone who was from Detroit and spent time in Detroit said you'll be fine," said Erin.
But Erin says it's about more than staying safe and proving the Motor City bashers wrong, it's about making a long term difference that can be seen and felt when the bright lights of Hollywood go dim.
"When the movies leave Detroit, Detroit 187 will still be here giving people jobs and helping the economy of Michigan."
