Check out these great photos of Erin at the 21st Hob Nobble Gobble benefit from photographer David L. Malhalab.

North Pole - Did Erin Cummings, of Mad Men and series star of Detroit 1-8-7, get an offer to go North, to be one of Santa's elves at the Hob Nobble Gobble, a benefit for the Parade Company and America's Thanksgiving Parade, Saturday night at Ford Field, in Detroit.

The elves, from Tina Marie School of Dance (Utica/Sterling Hgts/Warren) adopted Cummings as one of their own.

Erin has become the 'hot' face of Detroit 187, ABC's hit series, as she attends benefits, parties, does interviews, and has founded a charity group to keep Detroit kids warm - Mittens for Detroit. Maybe she was getting Clownie to donate an unused pair of his mittens...for more information: www.MittensforDetroit.org

Erin interview: A great place to visit; great place to live?

Image

Interview with Detroit News:

We had a pleasant chat Wednesday with Erin Cummings , the gorgeous redhead who plays medical examiner/roller derby girl Dr. Abbey Ward on ABC's cop show "Detroit 1-8-7" Tuesday nights, and were delighted to find out what a cheerleader she is for Detroit. "I love it here," the Huntsville, Texas, native said. "There are so many wonderful places and people here, so many treasures: Slows Bar BQ, Karen Newman , Dream Cruise, American Coney Island and Grace Keros who owns it! I love the sports teams … I've been to see all of them play." Erin loves the sense of community so much she's started her own initiative, "Mittens For Detroit," to collect and distribute new gloves and mittens to the needy. We couldn't help but wonder if she loves Detroit enough to make it her home. "At the end of the day, I'm an actress, and I have to go where my work takes me," she said. "I hope 'Detroit 1-8-7' will have a nice, long run. I would love to live here for a while. I have my eye on a few houses in Corktown that I wouldn't mind purchasing and calling my home." And we wouldn't mind having you here. To donate mittens for Erin's cause, go to www.mittensfordetroit.org.

Detroit 187 star gives back to the community with Mittens For Detroit

Image

WXYZ interview with Erin about Mittens for Detroit.

Detroit 187 star Erin Cummings is giving a "warm" helping hand to the community.Cummins has definitely been making an effort to make Detroit feel like home, whether it be stepping out to local sporting events or checking out all of the hottest restaurants, she's loving living in the "D." Erin decided she wanted to do something nice and give back to the community. The idea came to her on Halloween when she saw a relative help out a girl who had cold hands. Erin said "It was the simplest act of kindness to a stranger, that didn't require a lot of time and it didn't require a lot of money, but it just required somebody to take notice of another human being." And that's how Mittens For Detroit came to be. It was easy to get other people and businesses such as "Just Baked Cupcakes" involved. If you would like to donate to Mittens For Detroit you can click the link below for a list of drop box locations. www.mittensfordetroit.org

1-8-7 star looks to warm hands

Image

"Detroit 1-8-7" star Erin Cummings is hoping local residents will help her warm the hands and hearts of those in need this winter.

Cummings' Mittens for Detroit, which will collect new mittens at various drop boxes across the metro area and distribute them to Detroit-based nonprofit agencies, kicks off Tuesday.

"After the way the city of Detroit has opened its arms to me, the least I can do is give something back," she told Names & Faces Tuesday at Motor City mover and shaker Mikey Eckstein's 32nd birthday party. It was held at Small Plates in Detroit, where she was joined by cast mates Aisha Hinds, Natalie Martinez, Jon Michael Hill and Shaun Majumder as well as the birthday boy's family members and friends, including Kid Rock's brother Billy Ritchie.

Erin starts Mittens for Detroit charity

Image

Erin's letter about starting the charity:

Since relocating to the metro Detroit area in July 2010 to film the ABC series Detroit 1-8-7, I have been overwhelmed by the passion and soul that the people of Detroit have displayed. My initial concerns and reservations about this city, based mostly on fear and misrepresentation of Detroit in the media, were quickly washed away after attending a Tigers game at Comerica Park and walking the streets of downtown Detroit amongst the gorgeous and historic architecture.

I have continued to explore and get to know Detroit and the many gifts this cityhas to offer. I have seen and felt the desire for change that is so palpable andgrows ever stronger. A new wave of positivity is washing over a city that manyhave left but no one is able to forget. I don't know how long I am meant to be inthe Motor City, but I want my time here to mean something. I want to be a part of the solution and not a part of the problem. I knew all of this – but how could I help?

The answer came to me on Halloween night. I was handing out candy with my cousin, Kathy Moss, who lives in Southfield. Two young girls and their mothercame to the door trick-or-treating, and one of the girls was crying. Kathie immediately noticed that the girl was missing a glove and asked her if she was crying because she was cold. The mother was trying desperately to fix a glove that had been poorly sewn together. Without thinking twice, Kathy invited the girls and their mother into her home to get warm while she found an extra pair of gloves. She put the gloves on the girl's hands, wiped her tears, gave her a hug and a piece of candy, and sent the family out to enjoy the rest of their Halloween night.

It was so simple. It was so obvious. It was the right thing to do. But in a time when we are afraid to open our doors, much less our hearts, and take a few moments to help a stranger, it was one of the most beautiful moments I'd witnessed in a long time, and I was brought to tears.

It was that night that Mittens For Detroit was born.

I know that times are tough and some may feel discouraged from giving because of their own financial circumstances. We're keeping it simple. All we want is gloves. Big gloves, little gloves, fancy gloves or dollar store gloves (hey - I love the dollar store!). As long as they are new and will keep a pair of hands warm, we will take them. Http://www.MittensforDetroit.org/ will be constantly updated to reflect more businesses and merchants who have drop boxes at their locations, and we hope to see you at our Mittens For Detroit events. I look forward to a continued relationship with Detroit and, with your help, warming a few more hearts and hands this winter season.

With love,
Erin Cummings
