Erin Cummings, Red Wings partner to help kids
Erin Cummings doesn’t have to come back to Detroit. But she can’t help it. The actress and former star of ABC’s Detroit 1-8-7 spearheaded a special night at Joe Louis Arena Saturday night. The Red Wings partnered with Cummings’ Mittens for Detroit foundation, donating gloves, mittens and money for children in metro-Detroit. She may be focusing on her film career out of state, but Cummings can’t stay away. “When I run out of things to do in Detroit, I’ll stop coming. But I don’t think that’s happening anytime soon,” Cummings said. Fans at the Red Wings and Blue Jackets game Saturday donated over 450 gloves and mittens, and around $1,500 to the cause. “We’ve been planning Mittens for Detroit Day since August and so to see people coming in with gloves in hand, ready to put them in the box — and also, the people who didn’t know what we were doing, and saying ‘yeah, I’ll donate,’ — it’s very exciting,” the actress said. For Cummings, she has no problem saying she’ll be back soon — and frequently. “I really love Detroit, but it’s the people. The people keep bringing me back.”
